Hyundai recalls over 94,000 vehicles due to fire risk, warns owners to ‘park outside'

Hyundai is recalling more than 94,000 Genesis vehicles because of a potential fire risk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a notice that the power seat control switch in some Genesis models may get stuck, causing the motor to overheat and potentially causing a fire.

The recall impacts certain 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis and 2017 to 2020 Genesis G80 models.

The agency said Hyundai has advised owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until repairs are completed because there is a risk of fire even when a vehicle is parked and the engine is off. Hyundai is currently working on developing a repair.

Owners will be notified by mail around Dec. 1.

The company is aware of two incidents of fires associated with the defect, according to documents filed with the NHTSA. There have been no reported crashes or injuries connected to the defect.
